Girl’s Tragic Death.

A Kaitaia schoolgirl was killed in tragic circumstances on Monday afternoon, when the ends of a light silk scarf she was wearing became entangled in the rollers of an electric washing machine. She was Ina Lorna Taaffe, aged 16, youngest daughter of Mr J. T. B. Taaffe, Kaitaia. The girl’s mother and father were in Kaikohe at the time, and she had remained at home with one of her sisters, who is ill.

A Strange “Catch.” A dark object floating in the river Teifi drew the attention recently of Mr S. Dexter, of St Dogmells West, Wales, who was fishing nearby. He made a cast, hooked the strange “fish” and then got the shock of his life as he saw the catch was 10-year-old Margaret Coushin, Liverpool evacuee. Bathing a mile up the river, she was overcome by the current. Now, thanks to Mr Dexter’s rod and line, she lives to swim another day.-
