NEW OFFENSIVE
OPENED BY CHINESE. FOLLOWING ON RECOVERY OF CHENGCHOW. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 1. A military spokesman at Chungking said today that Chinese troops were re-entering Chengchow. The Japanese were withdrawing on three routes. . The Japanese North China Command announced that the Japanese forces have withdrawn from Chengchow, “having attained their military objective.” A broadcast from Chungking says that Chinese troops have begun a new offensive on the northern sector of the front. Already, contact has been made with the enemy and heavy battles are taking place.
