SKIPTON’S DERBY SUCCESS BEAU VITE EXPECTED TO WIN CUP. (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Commenting on the Victoria Derby the “Herald” says: In the matter of class the Derby candidates did not rank high, but Skipton, might be a much better colt than his win would suggest. In the battle in the straight with the A.J.C. Derby winner Laureate, Skipton did not take long to assert his superior stamina and won convincingly. The “Herald” says that the Mackinnon Stakes was little more than an exercise gallop for Beau Vite, who has won the last six weight-for-age races in which he has started. The “Herald” anticipates that Beau Vite will win the Melbourne Cup tomorrow.
