BELEAGUERED ENEMY IN ABYSSINIA. FAILURE OF ATTEMPTED SORTIE. (British Official Wireless.) / (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) RUGBY, November 2. A communique issued by the commandant of air headquarters at Nairobi states: “Ground patrols drew artillery fire from an enemy position on the Daru and Larei hills, north-cast of Gondar. (‘Natives recently attempted at dawn a sortie from Kuliber (an isolated enemy fort east of Lake Tana, astride the Derna-Tabor-Gondar road). They were met by Vollo patriots and forced to retire again within their defences. The position of this enemy outpost is completely cut off by patriots from land communications' with Gondar and it is supplied only by boat across the lake, which journey is precarious. heavily fortified, hill in the bazzo area was bombed and machinegunned by aircraft of the R.A.F. and South African Air Force on Friday. The results were not observed. East of Gondar direct hits were scored on trenches in military posts by t e S.A.A.F.”
