ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY
CONCERT ON TUESDAY. The Masterton Orchestral Society announce that their final concert for the 1941 season will take place next Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Opera House. The programme promises to be one of exceptional interest, including some outstanding favourites. Elgar’s famous “Pomp and Circumstance” march No. 2, the stirring “Finlandia” tonepoem of Sibelius, the evergreen “Four Characteristic Waltzes” by ColeridgeTaylor, two descriptive pieces—“From a Russian Village” by Marsden, and “The Clock,” composed for the Society by the conductor, Mr C. W. Kerry, are among the many interesting items to be presented. Mr Arthur F. Thomas, a Wellington singer, will be heard in some fine songs, and a sonata for pianoforte and ’cello by Mozart will be presented by Miss Gwen Greig and Mr E. F. Wilson. The personnel of the orchestra has been augmented, particularly in the brass section, and the concert should prove one of the most successful given by the Society for a long time.
