Russians Admit Critical Position RIVER BATTLES ON MOSCOW FRONT ENEMY HELD IN ATTEMPTS TO SMASH „ ' THROUGH LONDON, October 29. The Germans claim to have smashed, their vzay into the Crimea. Although the claim is not admitted by the Russians, a statement issued in Moscow last night said the position was critical on all sections of the Crimean front. A desperate resistance is being offered tp the German thrusts. There has been no abatement of the heavy enemy attacks on the southern front. The Donetz basin and Rostov, as well as the Crimea, are threatened. There is little further news yet of the battle at Kharkov, but the Russians say that heavy fighting continues in that area and that the city itself is in danger. The Germans report street fighting in Kharkov. On the Moscow front, the Germans are continuing their efforts to cross the Rivers Naro and Oka and battles are in progress in the Mojaisk, Malo Yaroslavetz and Volokolamsk areas. The Russians report that they are holding up all enemy attempts to smash through.
