HAVOC IN NAPLES

WROUGHT BY R.A.F. BOMBERS' PORT METHODICALLY DEVASTATED. HEAVY AND INCREASING ATTACKS. I By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. October 27. Thousands of Germans with tanks, guns and ammunition have been arriving at Naples throughout October for shipment to Tripoli. Now they are being driven cut of Naples, says the “Daily Express’s” Cairo correspondent, telling the story behind the R.A.F.’s four-night blitz against Naples. The R.A.F. waited till a heavy concentration was gathered. The Germans began last week to embark in Italian freighters and liners. Then in cloudy, moonless nights the R.A.F. swooped with Britain’s heaviest bombers, carrying bombs which leave a man at a distance of 500 yards dazed for 24'hours. The waterfront at Naples is still burning and the harbour is temporarily untenable for big ships. Moonlight has now returned, helping the R.A.F., and the Italians have no nightfighters. The R.A.F. also paid attention to Naples railway station, so the Germans are bombed when they reach Naples, bombed while awaiting embarkation, bombed and torpedoed en route to Tripoli, bombed at Tripoli and bombed when they arrive in the Western Desert. The bombing is not continuous, but steady, heavy and increasing. The voyage from Naples to Solium must be the most dangerous in the world.
