Mr C. W. Jones, of Taranaki, who is staying at the Midland Hotel, Masterton ,is a visitor to the Carterton Show today.

Captain A. Murray, officer commanding the First Field Company of Engineers, has been granted the temporary rank of major.
Mr J. A. Ongley, of Palmerston North, the well-known cricketer, and former New Zealand representative, has been appointed a sub-lieutenant in the British Navy. Mr and Mrs W. Wilson, of Wangaehu, have received word that their son, Pte. W. G. Wilson, who was reported missing from Crete, is now a prisoner of war in Germany.
Along with officers and n.c.o.’s of the First Battalion, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, Mr Barnard, M.P., who holds the rank of second-lieutenant, will enter camp at Palmerston North on November 1 for a special training course, which is expected to terminate at Christmas time.
Mr R. P. Everard, who was born in Auckland and joined the staff of the Union Bank there in 1909, has been appointed vice-president and cashier of the Bank of America, one of the largest banking corporations of the United States. He has been associated with banking in the United States since 1912. At the annual meeting of the delegates of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association at Wellington yesterday, the election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr R. J. Hobbs (Christchurch); vice-presidents, Messrs A. A. Whiting (Marlborough) and A. Kirk (Gisborne); council, Messrs A. D. Bayfeild, C. E. Bridge, S. 1., Kidd, M. A. Turner, T. M. Hinkley, A. Ross, A. G. Cockroft and D. R. Menzies; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. J. Tregurtha.
