FINE PERFORMANCE

BY Y.M.C.A. GYMNASIUM CLASSES

GRATITUDE EXPRESSED TO HELPERS.

WORK CARRIED ON WELL IN SPITE OF DIFFICULTIES.

A most interesting and instructive function in connection with Y.M.C.A. work in Masterton was the demonstration held last evening when the physical culture classes gave a performance that highly interested a large and appreciative gathering in the association’s gymnasium hall. The attractiveness of the hall was enhanced by the walls being beflagged with colours of the nation. The performers were in great heart and carried out the exercises in good style, while stunts by a clown kept those present in a happy mood throughout. The duties of floor manager were efficiently undertaken by Mr D. Costello. During the interval, Mr George Masters (vice-president of the association) apologised for the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr E. M. Hodder, and spoke on behalf of the Board of Directors, expressing their thanks and indebtedness to those, who through many difficulties during the year, had gratuitously assisted in maintaining the instruction of the girls and boys, and in particular mentioned the services ot the Misses N. Spiers, M. Fly, Messrs A. and R. Tatton and others, while those of the Government Physical Welfare Department represented by Mr H. Piper had proved most helpful. Mr Masters also, exhorted those present to do all in their power to encourage the work and assured parents of the worth-while efforts being made by the association for the youth of the town. At the termination of the gathering a pleasing gesture was made by three little girls coming forward, the leader, in well chosen words, asking Miss Fly to accept, on behalf of the Y.M.C.A. girls’ classes, a pretty bouquet and accompanying gifts in appreciation of her helpful assistance.
