THREE CHARGES
MIKI MIKI RESIDENT FINED. Fines totalling £l6 were imposed on Roderick McKay, aged 73 years, Miki Miki, when he appeared before Messrs L. J. Taylor and H. E. Pither, J.’sP., in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning, charged with drunkenness, using obscene language and damaging a police cell. McKay was convicted and discharged on the first charge and was fined £lO on the charge of having used obscene language and fined £5 and ordered to pay damages on the charge of having damaged a police cell. Senior Sergeant G. A. Doggett stated that the case was a bad one. Following complaints that a man was drunk in Queen Street near St. Bride’s Convent, McKay was arrested by Constable R. J. Berry. The case was serious in that women and children were in the vicinity at the time. After being locked up for some time it was found that McKay had torn off a grating in the cell and had broken it. The Bench decided to give McKay time to pay the fines at the rate of £5 per month.
