SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS WEEK-END FUNCTIONS. PRESENTATIONS TO SCHOOL. The silver jubilee celebrations at Solway College, Masterton, were continued during the week-end, when the programme covered a wide range of activities. In an interesting basketball match played on Saturday afternoon at the College, before a large attendance of spectators, the Old Girls’ team beat the Present Girls by 7 goals to 5, and won the Basketball Cup. On Friday night an executive meeting of the Old Girls’ Association was held, when matters of policy were discussed. On Saturday afternoon, branch presidents, secretaries and representatives were present at the Dominion Executive’s annual meeting. On behalf, of the Association, Mrs R. Avanne, Wellington, Dominion president of the Old Girls’ Association, presented the school with a lectern, together with a Bible and a hymn book, bound in green morocco inscribed with the College’s monogram engraved thereon in silver. Mrs Eric Shaw (president of the Wairarapa branch) and Miss Wynne Dunkley (president of the Wellington branch) presented the head prefect, Merran McCulloch, with a Bible and a hymnal bound in the school colours. A further donation was made to the school library. The election of officers for the Dominion executive resulted: —Patroness, Mrs M. B. Thompson, M.A.; president, Mrs R. Avanne, M.A.; vice-presidents, Mrs Eric Shaw, Misses J. Douglas, N. Ractliffe, W. Dunkley, M. Rowlands; committee, Mesdames J. McCaw, E. Isaacson, Misses J. Laing, Y. Estaugh, M. Thompson; secretary, Miss A. Tregurtha; assistant secretary, Mrs A. Southey. Mrs Avanne, who has filled the position of president for 15 years, was made a life .member in recognition of her services. The re-union tea, held in the College dining rooms on Saturday evening, was the largest yet held. Mr and Mrs Malcolm McGregor were present as guests. Mrs McGregor was presented with a posy by Mrs Avanne. On Saturday night an enjoyable concert was held. Items were contributed as follows: —Play, "The Maid of the Inn” (Wellington girls); song, Miss V. Sorenson (Carterton); duet and tap ’ dance, Misses A. Sorenson and M. Lawrence (Carterton); play ,“Folly of Faith” (Masterton girls); ballet (Wellington girls); song, Miss F . Brown (Auckland); dance, Miss Y. Estaugh (Hastings). The concluding item was a humorous play, “Mr Hackett’s Alibi” (Wellintgon girls). Miss J. Douglas was stage manageress. Yesterday there was a large attendance at the church parade at the Knox Church, Masterton. The service was conducted by the Rev. J. McCaw, Upper Hutt. Mrs McCaw was one of the first old girls of the school.
