MR. NASH’S MISSION
FURTHER DISCUSSIONS IN MELBOURNE PRODUCTION AND OTHER QUESTIONS. EXTENSION OF AIR SERVICES. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 24. The New Zealand Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, continued discussionstoday 'with the Federal Ministers, Messrs. Drakeford (Air), Keane (Customs) and Beasley (Supply). All subjects were of a confidential nature, particularly questions of Pacific strategy, on which Mr. Nash was unable to make any statement in the present stage. . He will remain in Melbourne tn the weekend, making a broadcast on Sunday night, and will leave for Canberra on Monday for a continuation of the discussions. He will be present when the new Labour Government presents its Budget on Wednesday. Today Mr Nash carried the sions for an extension of the Clipper service to Sydney a stage further. There is every probability of a satisfactory agreement being reached between the British, Australian and New Zealand interests concerned. While Mr. Nash is in Australia the Federal Government will review the whole system of the supply of war materials from Australia in an effort to reach a sound business basis. It is understood that New Zealand’s request is for an automatic allocation of onesixth of the Australian production of certain specified items. Another subject discussed was the supply of sugar from Australia. It is likely that New Zealand will take greatly increased quantities from this source.
