NINETY-TWO TODAY
.MRS H. M. RUSSELL, OF CHAPEL STREET. RESIDENT OF MASTERTON SINCE 1874. Mrs H. M. Russell, of Chapel Street, Masterton, is celebrating her ninetysecond birthday today. A resident of Masterton 1874, Mrs Russell has lived throughout that period in the same house. She recalls the time when all the land in the vicinity of her property was clothed in beautiful bush. Mrs Russell, who was born in County Cobham, Surrey, came to New Zealand when • she was 25 years of age. Following the death of her husband she married again. Her second husband died some years ago. “I have been married twice so I don’t think I will try again,” she remarked when interviewed this morning. Mrs Russell says she can still work as well as ever. She does her own washing and ironing and until recently her own cooking. Her eyesight is fairly good. Mrs Russell has received many telegrams of congratulations. She is under the care of Miss Munt, who is 75 years of age.
