WELLINGTON MEETING CHIEF EVENT TO GLADYNEV. KENTUCKY WINS SHORTS HANDICAP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Keen racing and close finishes featured the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s spring meeting at Trentham yesterday. The only event that called for an inquiry during the day was the fall of Enrich about two furlongs from the post in the Shorts Handicap. Enrich appeared to clip the heels of a | horse in front of him and stumble. He threw his rider, H. N. Wiggins, over his head and clipped him as he galloped past. A medical examination disclosed that Wiggins had a leg broken in two places and he was taken to hospital in Wellington. He was doubly unlucky, as he was to have ridden Battledress in the next race, thus losing a winning ride which went to W. J. Broughton. The weather was fine, but a fresh westerly wind was rather bleak, and the track was soft. . It improved during the day, but the times were always slow. There was a large attendance and the totalisator showed an increase of £8489 on the day, the totals being £59,055 as against £50,566. Results: — ' Glen Hurdle Handicap, Ijm.: 5/5 Stella Lux, 9.0 (R.
