STATE THEATRE
“DANCE HALL,” Tonight the 20th Century-Fox new comedy, “Dance Hall,” will be shown. It is said to be one of the funniest pictures ever brought to the screen, and is brilliantly acted by a splendid team of actors and actresses. From the moment Cesar Romero, as the Casanova of Paradise Pavilion, meets blonde and beautiful Carole Landis until the final fade out the story is packed with comedy situations. Romero, the manager of a dance hall, is the darling of all the girls. At the slightest nod from him, every girl in the place comes running. But one night his ego is upset. A pretty blonde refuses to have anything to do with him. To' the dance hall comes Carole Landis as “Venus,” his latest importation from Broadway. Arriving overnight for a rest before her opening, Venus and Cesar clash before she introduces herself, and the war grows. She walks ten miles home on one occasion when affronted, only to make him do the same by a trick later, and it is only when he has shown his underlying good qualities to further the ambitions of his young pianist that Venus and Cesar come together. The associate feature is “Tin Pan Alley,” a film full of catchy songs with Alice Faye, Jack Oakie, John Payne and Betty Grable in the leading roles, together with the Nicholas Brothers, the dancing sensations.
