PATROL FIGHTING

ENEMY ADVANCE POSTS. WITHDRAWN TO SAFE DISTANCE AT TOBRUK. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 0.42 a.m.) RUGBY, October 21. A Cairo communique states: “On the night of October 19 our patrols were active outside all sectors at Tobruk, but contact with the enemy was not made, as he had apparently withdrawn his advance posts to a safe distance. “In a patrol encounter yesterday, seme ten miles south of Solium, our mobile artillery damaged one enemytank, which was withdrawn under a smoke screen. We sustained no casualties.

“Enemy artillery, from the Halfaya sector, continued intermittent shelling throughout the day, without causing any damage or obstructing the movements of our patrols in this area.”
