SCRATCHINGS. j Scratchings posted yesterday for the Wellington spring meeting are as follow: — Ring Chief, all engagements, at 11.10 a.m. Kevin, for the October Handicap, at 10.5 a.m. Sanction, for the October. Handicap, at 12.40 p.m. Up till last evening no scratchings had been posted for the Rimutaka Hack Handicap to be run at Trentham tomorrow. There are 47 acceptors and the difficulty in securing sufficient riders may compel a reduction in the size ■of the field. It is unlikely, however, that there will be enough withdrawals to reach the safety number of 29 and thus avoid divisions. In addition to the 23 brackets in the Rimutaka Handicap (published on Monday) on tomorrow’s card at Trentham the following horses will be coupled on the machine: — Wainui Handicap.—White Rajah and Blue Border. Wellesley Stakes—Rink and Damask. ■ October Handicap.—Salutation and Bascule. > Corn Prince, who is to race in the Wainui Handicap in preference to the Shorts Handicap on Thursday, drew attention to his chances by beating Pay Roll and Foreign Coin over five furlongs in 1.6 2-5 at Trentham yesterday. Pay Roll led early, but she dislikes soft going, and Corn Prince easily gathered her in the straight. S. Waddell will ride Corn Prince tomorI row, and he will be one of the favoured lightweights in the mile event.
