WAIRARAPA & EAST COAST SOCIETY MEETING AT CARTERTON TODAY. EXCELLENT ENTRIES RECEIVED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The’final meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society, prior to the show at the end of the month, was held at Carterton today. The president, Mr J. A. McLeod, presided over a large attendance of members. Prior to the commencement of business, on the motion of Mr A. O. Cadwallader (vice-presiden), those present passed a vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr John McLeod, the oldest member of the society and father of the president, Mr J. A. Me? Leod. Sympathy was also extended to the relatives of the late Mesdames C. Campbell, T. McKenzie, Messrs Ashdown, J. T. Cooper and W. Charles (both the last two being killed in action overseas).

The treasurer, Mr. G. Brown, reported on the society’s financial position. He considered that the finances were in an excellent state. There was a total credit balance of £1357 18s 3d. The receipts since the last meeting totalled £403 7s 6d. Accounts for £ll7 Is 5d were passed for payment.

Mr L. H. Smart, secretary, reviewed the entries in the various sections and stated that they were practically the same as last year. He considered indications were excellent for a good show.

“Entries are particularly good and given favourable weather there is no reason why the show should not be as good if not better than last year,” commented Mr McLeod. The secretary of the Wellington District Cocker Spaniel Club advised that Mrs J. W. Watt had re-donated the club cup, which she had won outright, for competition. It was decided to send Mrs Watt a letter of thanks. The Manawatu-Oroua branch of the N.Z. Pig Breeders’ Association wrote stating that the Berkshire Cup had been won outright by Mr H. E. Fieldhouse, of Rongotea. The cup would be replaced by a handsome canteen of cutlery valued at £l5 15s. In the. “large black” section the canteen of cutlery had been won outright by Mr G. M. Whitlock. To replace' that a trophy valued at £3 3s had been donated.

Twenty new members were elected.

Mr McLeod said that the position regarding new memebrs was very satisfactory.
