STRENGTH OF NAVIES
JAPANESE ADMIRAL’S HOPE MOBILISATION OF WHITE RUSSIANS. TRAINING IN NORTH CHINA. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, October 17. The Tokio “Niehl Nichi Shimbun” quotes Admiral Sakichi Takahashi as saying: “I admit that in numbers at present and in the future the Japanese Navy will be unable to match a certain country's Navy (obviously the United States). However, our Navy has been training to overcome that superiority. No longer is it a question of numbers but of morale and technique, because of which the Japanese people may rest assured.”
The Japanese army is mobilising all able-bodied White Russians aged between 17 -and 40 years throughout North China for six months’ military training, says the Peking correspondent of the Associated Press. Presumably they are to serve in the expected Soviet-Japanese war. Asked whether they were willing to fight against the Soviet, Peking White Russians declared: “At present we have no choice but to obey orders backed by Japanese bayonets, but they ' will never get us to fight against our brothers in Russia." The situation in the Far East was responsible for a sudden meeting of the Canadian Cabinet at Ottawa yesterday.
