The Istanbul correspondent of “The Times,” belying von Papen’s optimism, says Turkish-German trade is practically at a standstill, while British merchandise is flowing into Turkey. A British engineering firm is constructing a new jetty at Alexandretta to ease the shipping congestion. Lord Carlisle, head of the United Kingdom commercial organisation, visited Palestine, where co-ordination pf land and sea transport facilities is now available, the land routes being via Basra or across Syria.
