AUSTRALIAN RACING THE CAULFIELD CUP. PRINCIPAL BARRIER POSITIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 16. The principal barrier positions for the Caulfield Cup are: Velocity 1, High Caste 2, Frill King 3, Triggerman 4, Evergreen 6, Tranquil Star 10, Lucrative 11, Rimveil 16, Beau Vite 21, Historian 22, El Golea 25, Sun Valley 20. With his weight and the unfavourable barrier position, Beau Vite is set the hardest task of his career. At Caulfield on the course proper the New Zealand juveniles Silver Mask and Pioneer, owned by Mr F. Christie, finished together making a track record for four furlongs on 47} seconds. It was an excellent trial. Beau Vite ran a brilliant mile in 1.40}, which is a fraction outside the track record. The first five took 1.3 and the last furlong 12} seconds. Rimveil beat Remarc over a mile in 1.44}, and Historian did an impressive mile in 1.43.

High Caste did steady work. His trainer is disappointed over yesterday’s effort. J. T. Jamieson intends to advise the owner, Mr H. E. Tancred, to scratch High Caste, who probably will be reserved for the Cantala Stakes.

Carlton and Sir Locket, previously reported doubtful starters, are now expected to run.
