MAGYAR SABOTAGE
CAMPAIGN SPURRED ON
BY SECRET CZECH RADIO.
SAVAGE REPRESSION EFFORTS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, October 16.
” The British United Press Istanbul correspondent says the secret Czech radio station is spurring on a serious sabotage campaign throughout Hungary, calling for a revolt against the Government. The campaign started only last week, but already has resulted in 200 persons being court-martial-led. Officials in Budapest have admitted the seriousness of the campaign and the newspapers are compelled to acknowledge its existence. The authorities are unable to prove a single instance where saboteurs acted for a foreign government. On the contrary indications are that sabotage has been committed by patriots, who hate the present Government and oppose its policy of handing over Hungary’s goods to the Germans. Peasants are destroying crops and food reserves. One peasant was convicted and hanged. ARMS IN YUGOSLAVIA ONLY 30 PER CENT SURRENDERED. DISTRIBUTION OF WEAPONS TO PEASANTS. (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, October 16. An Ankara message says the Germans have only been able to take over control of 30 per cent of the Yugoslav arms depots. The remainder are in the hands of guerillas, who are distributing arms to peasants. The German commander at Belgrade asked for seven divisions, for keeping order, but only a few troops were sent from Thrace and Rumania. The Italian occupation troops are hard-pressed, mostly cowering in a few fortified towns. The Italian fleet continues to shell the Yugoslav coast. RADIO & SCHOOLS NAZI PROPAGANDA FEARS. (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, October 16. The German News Agency reported that the residents of two districts in Prague were ordered to surrender their radios, following upon strong enemy activity and whispering' propaganda, apparently due to listening to foreign broadcasts. Some Prague schools have been closed because of anti-German activities by teachers, who have been arrested.
