PREJUDICED CRITICS

RACING AND OTHER RELAXATION IN WAR TIME. “I have a feeling that some people who just do not like something and never have liked it are pretending that it is now of national importance that it should be stopped,” said Mr F. C. Hooper in a recent broadcast talk. “For instance, I suspect that a lot of these outbursts against wasting petrol to go to race meetings are coming from people who really do not like racing and see a chance to have it stopped. There is nothing personal about this on my part; I go to a race meeting about once every two years, and I do not care a hang whether it goes on or not; but I would like to feel perfectly sure in my own mind that all the people who are complaining about cars going to race meetings are not using the war as an excuse for an attack on something they do not like. It is strange that I have not' heard anyone complaining about using cars to go to a concert or a theatre. All that I want to be sure of is that the people who like racing better than concerts can have their relaxation.”
