STATE THEATRE
“TOPPER RETURNS.” The (Aitslanding comedy, “Topper Returns,” will be finally shown tonight. “PASTOR HALL.” “Pastor Hall” will be shown at the State Theatre tomorrow at 2.15 p.m. and 8 p.m. This picture deals in a tensely dramatic manner with incidents in the life of Pastor Niemoeller, the German cleric who has defied the Nazi regime and has preached the doctrine of liberty and freedom, even though ho was thrown into a concentration camp for so doing. It is the story of an honest and courageous man facing up to the great issues that confront humanity today, and his fight against oppression for all that he holds dear—justice, liberty, human dignity and decency. Nova Pilbeam, Wilfrid Lawson and Sir Seymour Hicks, are co-starred. Wilfrid Lawson plays the title role and is said by those who have seen the film to give one of the finest performances ever portrayed by a British actor in a British film; Sir Seymour Hicks plays the role of a German General of the old school who endeavours to help the Pastor after he has fallen foul of the authorities. Nova Pilbeam plays the important role of the daughter of Pastor Hall, who finds her own romance interlocked with political intrigue. Also screening is “My Lucky Star, a brilliant picture featuring Sonja Henie, Richard Greene, Joan Davis and Cesar Romero. '“My Lucky Star” is a magnificent musical ice skating spectacle into which is woven a thrilling story.
