FLEMINGTON MEETING GUINEAS WON BY TEA CAKE. A WIN FOR DUCAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 12. There was fine weather and an excellent attendance at Flemington for the first day of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club’s spring meeting. The going held well. There was a thrilling finish in the Caulfield Guineas. Tea Cake withstood strong challenges from The Trapper and Gay Revelry and won narrowly. High Road made a poor effort. Laureate, who had every chance, finished fifth. Skipton, badly placed earlj\ finished well and gave the best Derby trial. All Love did the first half mile in the Guineas in 47 1-4 seconds. These tactics unsettled many of the runners. McCarten expects Laureate to show to better advantage in the Derby. Rainbar attempted to lead throughout in the Herbert Power Handicap, but Historian finished too well. Historian ran in near the post, but a protest was dismissed. Sun Valley directed attention to his Caulfield Cup chance by a brilliant finishing effort to win the Toorak Handicap. Interference in the early running appeared to settle his chance, but he put up a game performance. Amiable and All Veil were never possibilities. Sun Valley cost 525gns. as a yearling and has won £3656. Results: — 1010 Trial Handicap, 9f.: Frill King, 8.2 (N. Percival), 1; Veiled Promise, 7.10 (N. Powell), 2; Triton, 7.10 (R. Smith), 3.
