WOMEN’S DIVISION

MAURICEVILLE-IHURAUA BRANCH. COMPETITION WINNERS. ’ (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Mauriceville-Inu-raua branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the residence of Mrs J. E. Wright. Mrs W. Cheetham presided over a good attendance.

It was reported that several letters had been received from soldiers overseas conveying thanks for parcels. It was decided to close the library through lack of support and a vote or thanks was passed to the ladies who have done so much as voluntary librarians.

Goods for the Mercantile Marine and refugee children were received from the Ihuraua Sewing Guild. It was decided to donate £1 Is to the leper fund. The competitions resulted as follows: Wandering shilling, Mrs Wilson; best bloom, Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs R. H. Wilkin 2; home-made soap, judged by Mrs E. J. Wright. Kopuaranga, Miss Brunton 1, Mrs Trass 2. A donation of 10s toward the Mercantile Marine Comforts Fund was receivel from Mrs R. H. Wilkin. . It was stated that there were 19 knitted caps, 1 seaman's jersey, 9 scarves and 9 quilts ready to send to the Mercentantile Marine.

Three cases containing six hundred warm garments/ the majority of which are new and hand-knitted, are ready to forward to the Lady Galway Guild. A letter of thanks was received from the A.N.A. Club, Wellington, for a hamper. The branch is considering the purchase of a spinning wheel toward which several donations have been received. Discussion of the matter was held over till the next meeting. The birthday celebrations this year will take the form of a “Victory” fair. The next meeting will be held at Mrs Child’s residence, when soldiers’. parcels will be packed. j
