EKETAHUNA

FIRE BRIGADE BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) , The monthly meeting of the Ekemhuna Fire Brigade was held last night. Superintendent H. Rogers presided over a full muster of active and auxiliary members. Accounts amounting to 9s 6d were passed. It was decided to procure a number of hatchets and keepers.

In recognition of the sterling, services rendered to the brigade over a lengthy period of years, Mrs A. S. Carter was elected a life honorary member of the brigade and she is to be presented with the medal at a later date.

Auxiliary members O. C. Johansen, C. Parsons, A. Stewart, H. Deare and Trimm signified their willingness to act in conjunction with the Water Supply Controller of the E.P.S. It was decided to hold a social evening in honour of Secretary S. Daniel having completed 25 years’ service with the brigade on November 22. Secretary Daniel will be presented with the Fire Brigades Association’s gold star at this function.

Several nominations were received to fill vacancies in the honorary members’ ranks. Four nominations were also received for the position of an active member caused by Fireman J. Dickson having entered camp. Teams were drawn for the annual Tripe Cup fixture. The competition will take place on October 21. The auxiliary members will also compete in the competition. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE . BULB SHOW HELD. In place of the usual monthly meeting, the Eketahuna Women’s Institute held a bulb show, which was a great success. Williams, officiated at the church service, where three new members were admitted. The service was very impressive. Members adjourned to the. Sunday School room and various business matters were discussed. Mrs Wilkie Anderson, in a happy speech, welcomed Mrs Williams as a member. The latter suitably responded, and at the same time welcomed the two other new members who were admitted with her. Mr Williams gave a most interesting address, his subject being “The Influence of the Mother in the Home.” He was accorded a hearty round of applause. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Gray, Fredericksen, Toohill and Daniel.
