GUN DOG TRIALS

WAIRARAPA CHAMPIONSHIPS

GATHERING AT TE WHITI NEXT SUNDAY. FIELD WORK & WATER DISPLAY. The Wairarapa Gun Dog Club’s annual championships will be held at the Te Whiti bridge on Sunday next, commencing at 9 a.m., and proceedings will occupy the day. The morning will see the land work decided, and the afternoon will be taken up with the water events.

So successful was the championship meeting previously held at Te Whiti that this location has again been chosen for the 1941 fixture. The ideal water trial—a long and strong swim for the dogs—will provide spectators on the banks with a clear view, and there will be no occasion for the public to wonder what event is in progress, as Mr H. L. Byrn, of Masterton, will be present with his full equipment of voice-amplifying apparatus. Entries should be strong numerically, especially in the Wairarapa All Breed Championship (land and water). The following officials will conduct the meeting:—Patron, Mr C. E. Grey; judge, Mr H. T. Byrn; president, Mr W. Harding; ground and game steward, Mr B. Salisbury; club captain, Mr A. Mclvor; judge’s steward, Mr D. Andrews; official guns, Messrs C. E. Grey, D. S. McKenzie, and J. Bouzaid; honorary treasurer, Mr D. P. Donald; honorary secretary, Mr M. A. Rawlins. The programme will consist of one All Breed Championship, which will be the chief event, and three breed championships, viz., Pointers and Setters combined, Spaniels, and Retrievers. Light luncheon and morning and afternoon tea will be available.

The club will be indebted again to the Wairarapa Automobile Association for supplying a capable patrol officer at the narrow one-way bridge, and "it is expected that those motorists who will make Te Whiti their picnic ground on Sunday will co-operate in not congesting the bridge confines.
