RUMOUR DENIED

NAZI AIR OCCUPATION OF CANARIES. J STORY FROM LISBON. (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, October 7. It is authoritatively denied that there is the slightest foundation for a report that the Luftwaffe has occupied the Canary Islands with 500 aircraft, plus the necessary personnel. It is- pointed out that Lisbon, where the story originated, is at present notorious for unfounded rumours, the latest of which is particularly absurd in view of recent statements regarding the German shortage of aircraft and the concentration of the bulk of her air force on the Eastern front.

Authoritative circles in London also have no knowledge concerning a report, from New York, regarding a naval battle off Brazil.
