HEAVY LOSSES
SUFFERED BY THE GERMANS IN ASSAULT ON PEREKOP ISTHMUS. RUSSIAN BLACK SEA FLEET IN ACTION. (Bi’itish Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) RUGBY, October 7. No further details have reached London of the progress of the German thrust towards Moscow or of that presumably aimed at Kharkov. In the southern sector of the front there are indications, according to competent military quarters in London, that the Germans have suffered very heavy losses in the fighting round the Perekop Isthmus. One German division, which presumably was attempting to force its way into the Crimea, is held up at Genichesk, east of the Perekop Isthmus and the Red Fleet, which has been in action against it, is believed to have been largely responsible for holding it up and subjecting it to heavy casualties. The Russian midday war communique merely repeats: “During the night our forces engaged the enemy along the whole front.”
