DOMESTIC REFORMS
AND HUNDRED PER CENT WAR EFFORT. PROMISED BY INCOMING GOVERNMENT. CANBERRA, October 7. The new Labour Ministry was sworn in today, after which members of the Cabinet assumed office and issued statements emphasising the Government’s determination to secure speedy domestic reforms and ensure a 100 per cent war effort. The various States represented in the Cabinet are as follows: New South Wales, seven; Victoria, five; Queensland, three; Western Australia, two; South Australia and Tasmania, each one. The omission of the former Labour Prime Minister, Mr Scullin, from the Cabinet is due to his poor health and was at his own request. The average age of the Ministers is 54, the oldest being Senator Collings, who is 76, and the youngest, Mr Ward, who is 42.
The newspapers generally approve of the Labour Administration and express the hope that it will be given a fair trial.
