VICHY REPORT
SINKING OF FRENCH LINER COMMENT IN LONDON. VESSEL SAILING IN ENEMY CONVOY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.35 a.m.) RUGBY, October 7. No confirmation is available in London of the Vichy report that the French liner Theophile Gautier was torpedoed and sunk in the Eastern Mediterranean. The view expressed here is that, if the facts are as reported from Vichy, the responsibility clearly rests with the French authorities, since the Theophile Gautier was sailing in waters formally notified as dangerous and was in an enemy convoy.
