OPAKI MAIDEN STAKES, of £75. Six furlongs. All 8.5.
Legal has been twice unplaced this season and Trekalong was unplaced in the maiden race at Carterton won by Lord Defoe. First Role failed to gain a place in the Carrington Handicap at Carterton and Dungloe ran a third at Carterton and a second at Foxton. Te Marua ran twice unplaced this season and Was third at Carterton. Alienate was unsuccessful at the Hawke’s Bay meeting on Saturday. Colombo Bay ran third at Foxton to Daljattock and Dungloe. Most of the others have failed to secure places this season but have doubtless benefited by the racing. The public may favour DUNGLOE, TE MARUA and COLOMBO BAY.
SOLWAY HANDICAP, of £lOO. One mile.
Red Dash won the Gladstone Handicap (9 furlongs) at Carterton, Was third at Roxton in the Awahou Handicap (9 furlongs), second in the Moutoa Handicap (1 mile 1 furlong) at Wanganui, fourth in the Seafield Handicap at the same meeting and ran unplaced in the Avonhead Handicap at Riccarton. Spliced sectored a second and third at the Taranaki-Egmont-Wanganui-Egmont Hunt meeting, a second in the Trial Handicap at Wanganui, a second in the Flaxmore Handicap at Hawke’s Bay on Saturday and was third to Miss Leighon at Marton. Katesbridge ran unplaced in the Moutoa Handicap at Wanganui and unplaced at the Hawke’s Bay meeting on Saturday. Katesbridge won three races last season. Lord Defoe accounted for the maiden at Carterton. Mansura ran a third at Marton and has been three times unplaced this season. Arabic has been four times unplaced since the new season opened, while Gothic ran a third over 1 mile 1 furlong at Wanganui. The others have failed to do anything so far this season. On form RED DASH, SPLICED and MANSURA may be favourites.
RIVERSDALE HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP, of £lOO. One mile and a quarter. 8
Esperance Bay has done nothing so far this season though well in the picture last season. Hunting Cat ran secend to Master Cyklon at the Hawke’s Bay meeting on Saturday, it being the [ Hunting Song gelding’s only start this season. Rollicker has registered a |' third in three starts this season. Cuisinier has registered two seconds and a third this season, both the former placings being in hurdle events. Pern was unplaced at the Hawke’s Bay meeting ch Saturday, as was Te Oriko, who has failed this season to secure a place in four starts. Form may suggest HUNTINGR CAT CUISINIER and TE ORE.
MASTERTON HANDICAP, of £l6O. One mile.
Siglow ran unplaced in the Robinson Handicap at Foxton and there is consequently little form here to guide investors. He won six races last season including the Wairarapa County Cup. IGladynev opened the season inauspi- | ciously by failing to get a place in the 1 Winter Cup at the Riccarton meeting, but the Musketoon gelding on his second start at the Wanganui meeting accounted for the Marangai Handicap over 11 miles with 9 stone up. This season Master Cyklon registered a third in the Islington Handicap (11 miles) at the C.J.C. meeting in August and occupied a similar place in the Marton Handicap (9 furlongs) this month. He won the chief event, at the Hawke’s Bay meeting on Saturday. Last season he won four races out of 34 starts his last wins being at the Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu meetings., Duncannon won the Owen Handicap at Wanganui and was third at Carterton to Majority and Par Avion. Majority won the hurdles at Foxton, the Gonville Hurdles at Wanganui and the Taratahi Handicap at Carterton—three firsts out of four starts. Trench Law Won the Marton Handicap (9 furlongs), was second in the Wairarapa County Cup, unplaced in the Winter Cup and unplaced at the Christchurch Hunt, meeting. White Rajah has not yet
reached form this season, having run three times unplaced. Miss Leighon won a seven furlong race at Marton. The most fancied horses may be TRENCH LAW, MASTER CYKLON and MAJORITY.
LONGBUSH NURSERY HANDICAP, of £65. For two-year-olds. Four
This race is a very open one but DAMASK (winner of the Two-year-old Stakes at Wanganui), INCIDENT (fourth in the Juvenile Handicap at Carterton) and CAPINE may be fancied.
Augment, trained by B. Burgess at Opaki, is reported to be in splendid form. The Inflation gelding ran second to Noble Fox in the August Handicap at Riccarton, and occupied a similar place behind Duncannon at Wanganui. Pay Roll won the Robinson Handicap at Foxton this season, En Rich being second. The latter ran. unplaced at Wanganui and at Carterton. Happy Ending and Cheerful Lady have not been successful so far this season. Poutatau ran third in the Papanui Handicap at Riccarton. Sceptre has run unplaced four times this season. The favourites may be PAY ROLL, HAPPY ENDING, and POUTATAU.
Daljarrock won the Motuiti Handicap at Foxton. Distress Signal ran a second at the same meeting. Courting registered a third in the Maiden' at Marton. The public may go for DALJARROCK, and DISTRESS SIGNAL.
Cheval 7 12 Tristan 7 7 Te Ore 7 11 Croupisino won the Maiden at Marton over 6 furlongs with 8.7 up, and the Trial Stakes at Foxton over a similar distance with 9 stone up. He ran second to Lord Defoe in the Maiden at Carterton. Imperium accounted for the Fauvell Handicap at Marton, carrying 8.0 over 5 furlongs. Theatre won the Maiden at Wanganui over 6 furlongs with 7.12 up, and was third in the Spring Handicap. Raceaway ran a second at Foxton. Beau Coureur won at Carterton-last month. There is little form to guide investors in connection with the other entrants. Public fancy may be CROUPISINO, IMPERIUM, and THEATRE.
