ONE OF GREATEST OF WAR NAVAL & AIR FORCES HELPING SOVIET TROOPS. HEAVY RUMANIAN LOSSES AT ODESSA. « (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.57 a.m.) RUGBY, October 5. A Russian communique states: “Our troops yesterday fought the enemy along the whole front.” According to Moscow messages, one of the greatest battles of the war is raging on the approaches to the Crimea, where the Germans have concentrated reinforcements and the Red Army is being supported by Black Sea naval and air forces. A Soviet newspaper states that the air arm is making regular raids, twice and thrice daily, inflicting thousands of casualties on German troop concentrations. The Tass News Agency says the Russians have recaptured fifteen villages in the south-western sector (presumably Odessa) and inflicted 15,000 casualties on the Rumanians.
