FOR MASTERTON RACES MEETING OF STEWARDS LAST NIGHT. FINANCIAL POSITION IMPROVED. Prospects for the Spring meeting to be held at the Opaki racecourse were considered to be excellent at a meeting of the stewards of the Masterton Racing Club held in Masterton last night. With characteristic thoroughness those present dealt' promptly and efficiently with several matters which should assist in the smooth running of the meeting. In the absence of the president, Mr J. M. James, Mr C. J. Bennett presided. There were also present Messrs S. J. W. Gill, R. Buick, J. A. Betts, Walter Cameron, W. R. P. Cooper, J. T. Jameson, J. Mulvaney, J. B. Moodie, J. H. Payton, J. C. D. Mackley, N. G. F. Whiteman, and the secretary, Mr N. H. James. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs James, A. Corskie, H. L. Esau, lan Macßae and C. J. Toxward. The secretary reported that there was a credit balance in the bank of £248 Is Id. Accounts for £77 5s lid were passed, leaving a net credit balance of £l7O 15s 2d, compared with a debit balance of £lB5 3s lOd last year. “We are £355 better off this year, which must be considered most satisfatcory,” said Mr James. Five new members were elected. To avoid congestion at the gates it was decided to employ a ticket seller on the Wellington train between Carterton and Masterton, to sell 5s and 2s tickets. It was also arranged to delay the closing of the totalisator on the first race for 10 minutes for the convenience of train patrons. A resolution was passed which provided for the judicial stewards meeting in the bird cage after every race.
