Advice has been received from the Middle East that Lieutenant W. E. Aitken, son of Mr. and Mrs W. Aitken, Church Street, Masterton, has been promoted to the rank of captain. Captain Aitken who left New Zealand with the First Echelon was appointed senior instructor at the Officers’ Cadet Training Unit,. Cairo, after being on operations in the Western Desert. After several months in that capacity he has resumed duty as second in command of a Taranaki company. Captain Aitken, who is an ex-pupil of Wairarapa High School,.is well-known in stock circles in the district, having been a stock.buyer for Messrs Wright I Stephenson and Co., Ltd.
