SHAPING ON EASTERN FRONT HITLER’S BOASTFUL BROADCAST SAYS HE FORESTALLED ATTACK BY RUSSIA. TASK NOW “MAINLY SOLVED.” (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, October 3. “Enormous things are shaping on the Eastern front—for 48 hours gigantic operations have been in progress which will help to defeat the enemy in the East,” said Hitler in a speech in Berlin, inaugurating the winter help campaign. “The decision in this war will decide the fate of Europe for the next hundred years. It is clear that Eng* land’s friendship cannot be secured, for which reason I have decided that it is better to have a war when I am in charge of the affairs of Germany. ■ “In May,” he continued, “we saw that the Russians would undoubtedly take the first opportunity to strike. I decided to take the first step myself, and the greatest struggle in history began. Thus far everything has gone according to plan. This enemy is already broken, and will not lift his head again. A full attack against Britain, for which _we needed the entire Luftwaffe, was impossible while the Russians, at our backs, were massing armies and building aerodrome after aerodrome. Now three German armies have gone into Russia, and our first task is mainly solved. Russian prisoners number 2,500,000, and we have captured and destroyed 22,000 guns, 18,000 tanks, 14,500 aeroplanes, and occupied Russian territory twice the size of Germany in 1933. Fifteen thousand miles of Russian railways 'have been reconstructed, and 10,000 miles converted to German gauge. In contrast to the last war, we have unlimited ammunition at the front.. It is only a question of transport. . Our ammunition factories are producing so much that I have ordered some to cease production, because there is no enemy with whom we have to deal who cannot be overwhelmed with the existing stocks. “A particularly cordial friendship unites me to Mussolini. Our relations with Japan are continually improving.” Hitler spoke for 65 minutes. He maintained an even tone, except when he mentioned the democracies or the Soviet. Then his voice rose to a scream. The mystery voice frequently interrupted Hitler’s broadcast. The voice was unintelligible, but succeeded in rendering passages of his speech obscure. GERMAN. REPORT (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, October 3. A German communique states: “Operations on the eastern front are confining successfully. The Luftwaffe last night-effectively bombed military objectives in Moscow and important arms works near Kharkov.”

The German news agency claimed that troops in the Leningrad area had captured Tsarkoye Sela.
