MADE BY ROYAL AIR FORCE ENEMY SHIPS DESTROYED OR DAMAGED. FIRES STARTED IN PORTS. LONDON, October 3. This afternoon Blenheim bombers started several fires in docks at Ostend. Three of the fighter escort are missing. One enemy fighter was destroyed. In offensive operations against the enemy in Northern France yesterday seven German fighters were destroyed. Hurricanes swept down on an enemy supply ship, escorted by seven antiaircraft ships. The supply ship and three of the escort ships were set on fire. One anti-aircraft, ship was sunk and the remaining ..three were badly damaged; thus not one enemy ship escaped damage. Last night 1 small forces of British bombers attacked the German warships Scharnhorst and Gnbisenau at Brest and objectives at St Nazaire. All the British planes returned from these operations and also from attacks on enemy aerodromes. THREE RAIDERS DESTROYED OVER BRITAIN. CASUALTIES IN COASTAL TOWN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 3. Enemy activity over Britain last night was on a larger scale than for some time. Three raiding bombers were destroyed. Bombs were dropped at several points in coastal districts in the northeast and south-east of England. There were casualties and some damage. Bombs also fell in other districts, including the south-east of Scotland, but only slight damage was caused and no casualties were reported. Two enemy bombers were brought down off the north-east coast and the third in the Firth of' Forth area. One south-east coast town had its heaviest bombing of the war. There were two sharp attacks. Rescue squads were still at work when the second raid came. Those killed included six invalids. Thirty people were admitted to hospital.
