HITLER TALKS

SOME ASTONISHING CLAIMS “RUSSIA ALREADY BROKEN” IN SPITE OF ASTONISHING STRENGTH. VAST CAPTURES ALLEGED. LONDON, October 3. From Berlin comes news that Hitler today broadcast to the German people and to the people of occupied territories. He declared that Russia lhad already been broken and that the tasks of the German armies on the Eastern front had been accomplished in the main. He boasted that everything had gone according to plan and that the German armies had captured 2,500.000 Russian prisoners and had destroyed 22,000 guns, 18,000 tanks and 14,500 Russian planes. He admitted that he was astonished at the strength of Russia’s resources and that he had had no idea of the gigantic preparations of the enemy. During the last 24 hours operations had been in progress on the Russian front which would help to defeat the enemy in the east. Twice in his speech he used the phrase “when one day this war will be ended.” He said that relations with Japan were constantly improving and spoke of the cordial feelings which linked him with the leader of the Italian Fascists.
