Heavy Rain in Wellington.
During the 59 hours from 9 a.m. Wednesday to 8 o’clock last night 6.63 inches of rain were recorded in Wellington. Cranking Accident. Mr Joseph O’Brien, Upper Plain, Masterton, was treated at the Masterton Hospital today for a fractured thumb, which he ’received as a result of an accident while cranking a car. He has returned to his home. St. John Ambulance Dance. The St. John Ambulance Brigade will hold a dance in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, on Saturday, October 11. It is anticipated that patrons will finish off a day at the races by attending the dance. Electrical Storm. A resident of Masterton who was travelling through Tiraumea last week met the tailend of an electrical storm which swept over the Hawke’s Bay district. An indication of the severity of the storm is given from the fact that lightning struck the residence of Mr A. Poulton, Makuri. A wireless set at the residence was split in half, the telephone was torn from the wall and ' a fire which broke out in the passage had t 6 be extinguished. Some twentyeight yards of totara fencing, carrying No. 8 galvanised fencing wire, was razed to the ground. Of the 28 feet, 20 feet completely vanished. No one was injured.
