“GREAT AMERICAN BROADCAST.” In the 20th Century-Fox production, “The Great American Broadcast,” which will be shown tonight at the State Theatre, that sensational trio, Alice Faye, John Payne, and Jack Oakie, score another outstanding hit, Cesar Romero is starred with them. “The Great American Broadcast” . is the tuneful story of radio broadcasting keyed to a gay note. Skilfully reflecting the mood of the period spanned by the picture, are the catchy numbers “Run Little Raindrop, Run,” “Long Ago Last Night,” “I Take To You." “I’ve Got a Bone ,to Pick With You, ’ “The Great American Broadcast,” “Where You Are,” and “It's All in a Lifetime.” The story is gay. and yet dramatic. Alice Faye, John Payne, Jack Oakie and Cesar Romero are four people filled with confidence and courage as they strive to make America musically conscious via the air waves, something that has never been done before. They put over the first broadcast of opera and boxing, and put across the idea of a nation-wide hookup. That sensational dance team, the Nicholas Brothers, are even more entertaining than in “Down Argentine Way.” Radio’s favourites the Four Inkspots, and those comics of the Folies Bergere, the Wiere Brothers, also appear.
