RACING AT OPAKI
MEETING NEXT WEEK INCREASED INTEREST IN GATHERING. COURSE IN SPLENDID ORDER. (By “THE GRAFTER.”) Interest in the Masterton Racing Club’s meeting on Thursday and Saturday, October 9 and 11 is steadily increasing, and the question constantly asked among district followers of racing is “Are you going to the Masterton races?” The reply generally is “Rather.” The fact is now recognised that the club is doing everything possible to increase the popularity of racing in the Wairarapa, and to see that pations are catered for at Opaki in a mannei which will leave no room for complaint. Consequently the public, appreciating this fact, are determined to reciprocate in a manner which win assist the club along the Road of Prosperity. The course at Opaki is a favourite one with owners, trainers and the general public because of the uninterrupted view of each race and the excellence of the going on the course proper. The facilities for betting are on a most convenient scale and will be on the win-and-plaee system. Tram and motor services from Masterton to the course and back will be found to be of a suitable nature, while in the matter of trains from beyond Masterton patrons are being specially catered for. The secretary and the stewards are working hard to ensure a successful meeting and indications point to this being realised. _ The Masterton meeting provides a good guide to form in connection with the Trentham and Riccarton gathering's which follow and many Opaki contestants have saluted the judge on the old Hutt racecourse, at Trentham or at Riccarton. Acceptances for the first day will close with the secretary, Mr N. H. James, at 9 p.m. on Monday, October 6. .
