CARTERTON
BOY SCOUTS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. . ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Citizens Committee of the Carterton Scout movement was held in the “Times-Age” branch Office, Carterton, last evening, Mr A Paterson presiding. There were also present: Miss Eagle (secretary),. Mrs Paterson, Messrs H. T. Ray, E. Fairbrother, A. Adams and C. J. DeLacey. Mr Adams was elected to the committee and welcomed by the chairman. The matter of badges ordered from Wellington was left in the hands of Mr H. T. Ray. It was decided that a warrant for a former Assistant Scoutmaster, and not presented, be returned to the District Commissioner for cancelling, as the person concerned no longer resided in Carterton. It was resolved that the secretary write to the District Commissioner, Mr R. N Barton, asking him to arrange a suitable night to present a warrant to Miss F. Eagle as cub mistress. Accounts amounting to £3 10s 6d were passed for payment. Mr H. T. Ray’s offer to act as Assistant Scoutmaster was accepted. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the Carterton delegates to invite troops to hold the proposed Scout and Cub rally at Carterton on November 1. Mrs Paterson, on behalf of the ladies’ committee associated with card parties, thanked Mr Ray for the assistance he had rendered, which was greatly appreciated. The next meeting will be held on November 6. BOWLING CLUB WORKING BEE ON SATURDAY. Members of the Carterton Bowling Club are to attend at the green on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of completing necessary work before the season is officially opened on October 18. Boy Scouts’ Card Party. There was a good attendance at the weekly card party of the Boy Scouts. The prizes were won as follows: Ladies, Mesdames Amundsen and Pinfold; men, Messrs F. Daysh and H. T. Ray. Supper v/as provided. Euchre Party and Dance. z A euchre party and dance will be / held in the Parkvale Hall tomorrow \ night. - These gatherings are always popular, and tomorrow the hall should be well filled. The committee, of whom Mr E. T. Bliss is secretary, is sparing no effort to make the gathering an enjoyable one. Mrs Ashton’s orchestra will provide the music. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Ponatahi at 2 p.m. on Sunday next. Jersey Bull Show and Sale. ' The annual Jersey bull show and sale will be held on the Carterton showgrounds on Thursday, October 16. Fifty-three bulls will be on exhibition, and after being judged as show stock, will be offered for sale by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., from whom catalogues of sale can be obtain- ' ed. ■ •-.i ' J Safety First. On Thursday next' the automobile service officer will show films in the bandroom, Carterton, to the children attending the Carterton District High School, emphasising the need for school children and even adults to b'd careful in crossing roads and to watch the motor traffic. After the films have been shown Mr Beere will deliver a lecture to the children at the Holloway Street School on “Safety First.”
