WELLINGTON RAINFALL MAKARA DISTRICT ISOLATED. TRANSPORT OF MILK HELD UP, (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The rainfall recorded at Kelburn for the 24 hours to 9.30 a.m. today —4.15 inches—constitutes a Wellington record for any 24 hours in the month of October, and makes approximately 6 inches for the two days on which rain has been falling. It is still raining and more is forecast. The Makara district is isolated, preventing the transport of milk from that area. VET ANOTHER TWENTY-SEVENTH WET FRIDAY IN WANGANUI. WANGANUI, This Day. Friday is now being called rain day in Wanganui. Rain fell again today, making the twenty-seventh successive wet Friday in Wanganui. MAIN TRUNK LINE NOW REPORTED clear. MUCH DAMAGE IN WELLINGTON AND SUBURBS. WELLINGTON, This Day. The Main Trunk railway line is now open. The Limited express from Auckland this morning did not come past Paekakariki, the passengers being transferred to buses and arriving here at 11. a.m. Unless further slips occur, no further dislocation of services is expected. Continued rain has wrought havoc throughout Wellington and its suburbs to both public and private property. Public expenditure in making good the damage will run into thousands of pounds and to this has to be added thousands more suffered on private properties. The Hutt Valley and also the coastal hills area north to Paekakariki also carry considerable damage.
