• ON THE MEDICAL BILL OPPOSITION AMENDMENT. WHY IT WAS WITHDRAWN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. When the House of Representatives met at 10.30 a.m. today, further consideration was giveh to the Social Security Amendment Bill. In the debate on the short title, in the Committee stage, the Leader of the Opposition, Mb Holland, said the Pfime Minister (Mr Fraser) had stated on the previous night that a statement would be welcomed as to why the Opposition had withdrawn its amendment, moved three weeks ago. Mr Holland said the Opposition had carried out its function in fighting certain clauses of the Bill tenaciously, and had succeeded in its fight. Of eight objections made by the Opposition, seven had been sustained by the Government’s amendments. The Minister of Finance (Mr Nash), replying, affirmed that not a word of Mr Holland’s had justified the Withdrawal of the amendment. The Opposition would still vote this Bill out tomorrow if it had the power to do so. additional cost.
