ELECTION DATE?
EXCHANGES IN THE HOUSE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A further attempt by the Opposition to draw from the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, some announcement of the Government's intention on the general election question failed in the House of Representatives last night. When the House was about to adjourn, Mr Fraser said that urgency for the second reading of the Social Security Amendment Bill would be taken today. The session should end next week, he added. “Any date fixed for the election?” asked Mr Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga). “What does the hon. gentleman suggest?” parried the Prime Minister, with a smile. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland: “The 22nd of November.” A Government member: “You are a bad guesser.”
