HOUSING PROJECTS
BIG SCHEME IN CANADA. OTTAWA, September 25. In twenty-seven cities and towns across Canada housing projects for war workers are actively under way. It is estimated that within the next few months 9,840 war workers —equivalent to a town of 25,000 —will have been provided with homes. The projects are administered by War Time Housing Limited, one of twelve Government cwned companies formed to facilitate war production. In addition to actual construction operations the company has had to undertake in many cases the installation of household services including water and sewer facilities, electric light, telephone, roads and walks. The houses arc built in prefabricated woed, the sections being bolted together, with the double objective in mind of speed in construction and a high percentage of salvage value after the war. By making the houses demountable it is planned to prevent the creation of post-war ghost towns.
