OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
THE HOME GUARD (To the Editor.) Sir,—ln England the Home Guard has shown itself a most valuable part of the defence forces. Here in New Zealand with more and more of our young men going overseas, the Home Guard must be prepared to play a vital part. I am reminded of a song which was written about 30 years ago at Victoria College and sung to the tune of the Bridal March from Lohengrin. It might well be the song of the Home Guard. Pathways of men winning the height, Hard was the struggle the banner 'to get, Honours the cause and freedom and right Follow the standard and never forget. Drake on the main take heed to his drum Beating to quarters it calls you to come Ware ye your ease your heritage spending Build with your might a city unending Stand to your arms be ready the blow, Peace shall but answer the bend of the bow. — I am. etc.. “X.” Masterton, September 29.
