CONFIRMATION SERVICE
CONDUCTED AT ST. MATTHEW’S. ADDRESS BY BISHOP OF WELLINGTON. St. Matthew’s Church was packed to the doors last night, marfy extra seats having to be provided, when the annual confirmation service was held. The service at which 72 candidates were confirmed by the Right Reverend the Bishop of Wellington, was deeply impressive. The Bishop gave an inspiring address on the meaning of the laying on of hands. It tokened possession. God’s touch claimed them as His Own. Their confirmation proclaimed that they belonged to God and had a glorious pur-1 pose in life which they would not i shirk. Then it revealed transmission.! Equipment and power came to them through their confirmation, enabling them to play a worthy part. Finally, the Bishop said, it meant commission. They were officers for God with a definite work to do. The Bishop illustrated his remarks by describing the Sflkdts of Dr. Chavasse, who won the in the last war.
