The death occurred at Woodville on Friday of Mrs Agnes Irene Orr, wife of Mr E. D. Orr, at the age of 48 years. In the Royal Academy of Dancing examinations now being held in Wellington, Miss Beulah Hirst, of Masterton, was successful in passing the Elementary examination. • Miss P. Bell has won the Wanganui provincial ladies’ golf championship, beating Mrs G. W. Hollis (formerly Miss Olive Kay) in the final, 6 and 4, after the latter had eliminated last year's champion, Mrs R. Cook, 5 and ■4, in a semi-final. The death occurred at Palmerston North of Mrs Jean Oughton Cruickshank, widow of the late Sergeant Cruickshank, Onehunga. Mrs Cruickshank "was born in Mosgiel and spent most of her .early life in the Oamaru district. Later she lived at Wellington and Onehunga. Mrs Cruickshank was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a-family of four, Mrs A. Anderson, Palmerston North, and Messrs A. H. Cruickshank, Gold Coast; T. H. Cruickshank, Masterton; and D. J. Cruickshank, Wellington. After having completed over thirty years’ service with the Post and Telegraph Department, Miss B. J. Johnson will retire at the end of this month from the position of supervisor of the automatic telephone exchange in Dunedin. Miss Johnson has been an exchange attendant at Masterton, Napier, Auckland and Dunedin, and also a toll operator at Dunedin. Later she became supervisor at Gore. New Plymouth and Timaru. She is the daughter of Mrs A. Johnson, of George Street, and the late Mr J. Johnson. When residing in Masterton some thirty years ago, Miss Johnson was a well known hockey player.
